My Weekend In Photos

Writing was not on my mind this past weekend as I had a very special wedding shower to attend then I ran (not literally) out to Montauk for the holiday weekend. Saturday was a high school friends wedding shower where we realized she is the first wedding and baby! I stated that I really thought I was in the running for being first for something (first last one to not have moved out yet?) but Meghan seems to have one.

I could not be more happier for her and her little family. I've known her since I was in middle school and she definitely got a great guy. It was also fantastic seeing most of my high school friends. Thankfully social media has kept us in touch even if we hadn't really spoken in a while. It was like nothing changed!

After the shower I headed to Montauk with my sister. Although it was FREEZING we had a pretty great time. We ended spending Saturday night out until 4 AM, way past my bedtime. I met some new friends who I hope to hang out with the next time I go out.

Here are some highlights:

Short Shorts? Not for Me!

One of the first sports I played was soccer and apparently my legs adapted to that and have not changed since. Therefore, short shorts and I are not friends nor will we ever be.

I'm sure you've noticed how hot it has been- so I need some recommendations. What are your favorite running shorts?

Jessica D'Avanza suggested the Brooks Epiphany Boy Shorts.

Since all my shorts are too big they are not making public appearances this year. My absolute favorite pair (pictured below) are from the Gap Fit line. I tried on a pair at the Lululemon warehouse sale and really liked the elastic around the thigh to keep them in place.

So, what are your go-to's? Favorite brands? Cool designs? Help a runner out!

Class Review: My First Time at Uplift Studios

I've actually known about Uplift for a long time. With intentions of trying out a class last year, I had created a username yet never actually made it there. I received an e-mail last week for a free class on my birthday however was out of town and asked to use it a different day and they said yes! So I signed up for Kat's 6:30 PM class for Friday after work.

I arrived about 7 minutes early and checked in. The girl at the desk was so nice. She pointed out where everything was and offered me water and a towel. I really like when they take the time to do that. I was the first one in my class who arrived so I got myself settled and headed into the group class room to meet Kat, the instructor.

[The personal training area]

There were only four people in my class which was nice. Kat had so much energy even after she just taught for an hour, I loved it. She explained the structure of the class to me- cardio with intervals and arms- then we got started. A little warm up then the hard stuff.

There was a mix of jumping jacks, running in place, burpees, squat jumps, lunges, kicks and more. Each song was something different! What I really loved, which I told Kat at the end of class, was there was no pressure when I couldn't do something or stopped. She came over and tried to motivate me to keep going (which usually worked) but I didn't feel annoyed like I do at some other studios, I didn't mind it at all!

I pushed through the class even when I want to just drop dead on the floor. The last song we did a mix of everything we had done all night and then we stretched. That is the ONLY negative thing I have to say- a little more stretching is needed at the end. I stretched my legs out a little extra while everyone was getting ready to go.

Afterwards I filled my water bottle and got my things together and ended up having a nice talk with Kat. Oh, and they had trail mix. Clearly they knew the way to my heart.

My overall thoughts? I will definitely be taking this class again. The studio was beautiful and clean, the staff was helpful and polite, they provided water, towels and anything else you may need. The class was 55 minutes and is totally worth it.

Since I highly recommend this class, I wanted to share Kat's code for a free class with you. Use "UpliftKE" during checkout for a free class- it can be any of them! Remember to say I referred you because if 4 of you do- I get a free class!

Have you ever taken a class at Uplift? What did you think?

Sweat Never Felt So Good

Yes, I am a slacker/lazy/unmotivated/what ever else you can think of as to why I'm lacking posts. Let's throw tired in there too.

I had a fabulous birthday thanks to my two best college friends. Super low key and I definitely needed a weekend away.

Last night I was finally able to workout since getting the OK from the doctor on Monday- and it felt so good! Before you go thinking I did an actually workout I really only went on a 20 minute interval run on the treadmill at 8:45 PM. But hey, it was something. My neck and my IT Band felt fine. Although since I haven't run in two weeks I'm not surprised by leg felt fine. I've also emailed Finish Line PT and am actively going to try and fix this issue.

On Friday I'm taking my free birthday class at Uplift at 6:30. I am SO excited to finally get down there and I hope it's as great as everyone says. Obviously I will be putting a review up :)

In honor of my 24th birthday I'm sharing 24 life lessons I learned in the past year.

  1. I really, really love coffee.

  5. Someone can break your heart and leave you crying for three months, and will not give a shit.
  6. Friends will ignore your for months and then try and crawl back into your life. You decide if they're worth it.
  7. Nashville and Pretty Little Liars are the only shows I watch religiously.
  8. Running is a huge part of my life and I've met some amazing people because of it.
  9. Heated blankets are heaven.
  10. I have no idea how to relax.
  11. If you work your ass off, good things will come.
  12. Life's easier single.
  13. I'm also not very love-able.
  14. Spinach has become an obsession.
  15. So has my iPad.
  16. Don't trust anyone (but if you know me in real life, you know that I already knew that :p)
  17. My sister REALLY lacks street smarts.
  18. When I lost weight, my boobs shrunk, a lot.
  19. I'm really proud of my accomplishments this year.
  20. I am also lucky that #5 happened because I probably would not be where I am.
  21. I'm a big city girl, with big city dreams.
  22. The beach will always make things better.
  23. I need to stop cutting my hair short- I hate it as soon as I leave the salon.
  24. The last thing I learned this year? I cannot wait to see where my career takes me and am so excited for this chapter in my life.

Tea Me!

I am a lover of all things coffee so I was a bit skeptical when I was approached by two separate  reps wanting to send me tea. I do love to try new things though so I thought why not? I received Good Earth Tea's newest flavors along with a beautiful box filled with four Organic India tea flavors.

Each brand had very unique flavors that each did something different for me. I have two absolute favorites I picked.

The Good Earth Sweetly Twisted tea had just enough sweetness to it. Usually I am not a sugar person but this was warming and delicious. The actual tea was darker than I thought it was going to be- it was a deep red. I could pick out the sweet and herbal notes very easily. It reminded me of having a summer cocktail in the winter.

To launch their new flavors, Good Earth partnered with Hollywood’s hottest new fitness guru, Bizzie Gold to create signature BUTI Fitness workouts inspired by these new flavors. Click here for Sweetly Twisted personalized workout. My advice for the workouts is more music and louder.

The Organic India Tusli Green Tea replaced my morning coffee several times in the past two weeks. It has caffeine, which is great since most green tea I buy does not. It was so perfect I didn't even have to add milk! The Tulsi Green Tea was very light and satisfying. I was nervous about not having my coffee but the tea provided a natural, energy boost.

ORGANIC INDIA works with thousands of family farmers in India, cultivating tens of thousands of acres of farmland that has been 3rd party certified organic through funding from ORGANIC INDIA. They also work with local tribes-people in India who ethically wildcraft herbs on 592,000 acres of forest that ORGANIC INDIA has converted to USDA certified organic.

Other tea flavors I tried included:
[The Cocoa Tango tea was super spicy! My throat definitely burned but I have many friend who like chilies  If that's you, I highly recommend]e y

[I tried the Sweet Rose before I headed to bed one night and it was nice and relaxing. The notes were light yet it had a great flavor.]

Have you ever tried Organic India or Good Earth? What did you think?

Staying Healthy Post-Surgery

[Edible Arrangements from my office!]
Not being able to work out or run is slowly killing me. I was looking forward to taking May to catch up on classes. I'm excited to go back to SLT and Flywheel and try out new studios like Uplift and Refine. However surgery = sidelined! I guess a little rest would do me good however with a birthday in less than a week, it's hard to stay healthy.

[Cupcakes in a mason jar- not sure if this is considered healthy but it is considered yummy]
My meals are definitely going to all include spinach until I get the OK from the doctor to work out again. That's not an excuse to eat shitty but I mean, it's my birthday month, I've got friends to see :)

[Excited to wear these!]
What do you do when you get sidelined? Go-to meals? Do you get bored or anxious? I bought some new workout clothes I look forward to wearing!
