Race Hard, Carb Harder: Brooklyn Half Marathon x National Pizza Party Day

It's race week! While I'll be heading to Chattanooga for IRONMAN 70.3 with Adrienne Bunn, a majority of my running friends, including my sister, will be tackling the OG Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday.

The BK Half is one of my least favorite races, though I know many love it (on the flip side, I loved the old Staten Island course, and most people I know didn't like that race), but I will not be partaking.

It is serendipitous that National Pizza Party Day falls on Friday, May 16, 2025, this year. Could the timing be any better?

I was invited to what was touted as a pizza-making event but turned into just pizza eating (no complaints!) last week at Little Charli to celebrate the launch of their new pie, Tipsy Nonno, just in time for National Pizza Party Day.

Little Charli is located in the West Village at 271 Bleecker, conveniently right off the Christopher St. 1 train. It's a cute, quaint, quiet spot nestled in the bustling block with one outdoor table.

The staff was so kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere was cozy.

After I settled in, took some photos, and enjoyed a spritz, I was brought out the main reason I was there - the Tipsy Nonno.

A solid meal for two, Little Charli's Tipsy Nonno was incredibly flavorful. The homemade dough is coated with mozzarella, ricotta, homemade vodka sauce (no pancetta, so vegetarian), stracciatella cheese, and parmesan. It's topped off with a garlic mousse, oil, and basil.

I devoured as much of this as I could. It had a nice kick, not too overpowering, and was light and fluffy. It was slightly oily, but not to the point that it was taking over the pizza.

The chef also shared a piece of the Diablo –Soppressata & Spicy Honey, and dessert pizza, both 10/10.

If you’re racing the Brooklyn Half or just need an excuse to eat great pizza, Little Charli is running a National Pizza Party Day special on Friday. Call it race fuel. Call it balance. Either way, it’s worth the stop.
